The Garden Stays are a favourite for Renfaire adventures and everyday whimsy. They’re an ideal base for a complete historical outfit or a modern formal ensemble. Dress them up or down and decorate to your heart’s content—ruffles look especially lovely with this piece! Your first stays/corset can feel intimidating, but take it step by step. The bias binding is the most advanced step in this pattern. Take it one step at a time, know it might take a while, there’s a lot of repetition!

This is a really easy pattern to make reversible! See below for details.

Skill Level: Adventurous beginner/intermediate. Knowledge of bias binding is recommended.

Time: Testers completed this pattern between 6 and 15 hours. Perfect as a weekend project!

Format: Includes A4/USLetter paper and A0 formats.

Loved by over 500 creatives

“It came together so easily and the fit is fantastic, even without alterations. I always appreciate when a designer takes multiple bust sizes into account. It makes less work for me, which I will always be thankful for. Also, I will never not love having multiple styling options to choose from.”

— Mary

“Thank you Arden for creating such a fabulous pattern. I found this easy to follow and the instruction are clear and precise. I had so much fun making two stays for the Melbourne Renfair I am really looking forward to your next creation”

— Clare

“The pattern took away all the scary decision making surrounding making stays for the first time. The boning channels are planned, the bustline is already shaped, and the choices of fabrics and interfacing were answered! My first sewing project in several years that didn't make me want to scream. Bliss!”

— Adelle

“Loved the amount of boning and placement, I felt really supported (for a 14H, this is impressive!)”

— Mel

“It really was easy and came together beautifully.

Nothing felt overly complicated or fussy. And it fit so well its a great baseline that I bet I could use to make other garments like kirtles or bodices.”

— Sam

“The instructions were clear and thoughtful, and the sizing made it so I didn't need to do any adjustments to find a pair of stays that actually fit me that is a very easy to make, you can do in one weekend, you can use with casual clothing or be a fairy.”

— Amy
